Fair credit is not a rare thing. However, more than half of consumers with fair payment history find it difficult to pick up a beneficial credit card deal. The reason for it is in the average status of fair credit: the consumer cannot qualify for good credit cards because he is not considered reliable, while bad credit cards have too low credit limits and too high interest rates. Another pitfall of fair credit score is that a denial or a late payment can make your credit bad again! That makes you feel on the edge with a fair credit.
An important issue for fair credit possessors is not about the dangers of this score. It is about if you are ready to take efforts to improve it or this score is quite satisfactory for you. A considerable number of consumers, who have achieved the average payment rating, have no intention to improve their credit which is not bad already. In spite of some difficulties, you can find quite a tolerable credit card for fair rating, even with some rewards and low interest rate. Others, with a more persistent character, are ready to work hard to obtain good credit rating fast. He latter, though having to take a lot of pains, are soon eligible for the most competitive rates and the most beneficial perks.
If you are not a passive type, get some recommendations about how to improve your fair credit faster, by means of a few little tricks. You can try some of them or put the whole list into practice.
Before starting, consider how many points you are going to get. As far as we know FICO scoring system, 350 points is bad credit history and if you add 270 points you get fair credit rating of 620. This is much, do you agree? Good credit score is as far as 40 points from fair credit, so you are going to spend less time and effort.
You can try the following steps:
- Clean your credit report of any errors and negative records. They can be old and new, remove them all. To do this, you just can write letters to all the credit bureaus that run your credit report and ask them to do it, using documentation as a proof. You will need to collect your credit account numbers and dates of account closing or opening, information about your payments and the like. Some people manage to make 50 - 100 points improvement this way.
- You can apply for 1 - 2 credit cards with a considerable credit limit and use no more than 30% of the available credit limit, thus forming the positive credit to debt ratio. Your credit rating will also reflect this by additional points.
- You can also try to ask somebody with good or excellent credit history to obtain a joint account or make you an authorized user of a credit card account. Don't forget to be accurate with this account, in order to keep your credit and prevent the other person's credit from damage.
Go on sticking to general rules of a good credit customer: paying on time, staying within your credit limit, making more than minimum payments etc. You are sure to be a success in getting an excellent credit score!
